I have never seen a Golf motor pulled out like that!!!
Easier to drop the box and motor out the bottom in one piece.
Good luck with it mate,
Andrew
Yea, I'm pretty sure mum has chucked them socks, got worn through I think. or covered in grease maybe!
I'm slowly getting stuff done. I though I had lost all my bolts and gaskets and stuff, and this got me really bogged down, but I found them the other night, and combined with some nuts/bolts Pete Jones gave me, I'm starting to get back into it!
I have to fit the starter motor, alt, water hoses, and a few other things, like the carb too, and I'll be getting noises! (i hope)

Yea, some things you have to learn the hard way. like taking out an engine. I know which was is easier now! hahaha
The trophy willbe on display at Nats, just for kicks!
Just thought I'd bump this up with a bit of an update.
After a few problems with the 'new' engine initally, I've finally got it going again, and running reasonably well, and I'm just fixing up little things as I go, but mainly trying to enjoy driving it!
I replaced the voltage reg at the back of the dash, so now my temp and fuel gauge work, which is pretty handy at times Cheers Tim for the part.
Also visited Stu today (thestu) and swapped over my iffy rear wheels bearing with a good one Stu had. repacked it, and good to go.
Also visted Pete Jones and he had a look at a few things and fix up some stuff, and also gave me some cordoba seats! A bit mouldy, but nothing a good clean can't fix. Thanks alot Pete.
The carb is still running ok, but I'm still of the belief it's over jetted and as such, I bought a carb rebuild kit with standard jets off ebay the other week. I'm yet to get it (and consequently rejet the carb) but I'm hoping I'll be able to get a bit better performance and much better economy - since I'm not overly happy with the 13l/100kms I got out of the last couple tanks!
I don't think it's as fast as it should be though. I'm hoping the new jets and a good tune up will fix these issues.
next on the list is to neaten up some engine bay wiring, fit the seats, and a few other little things, but for now, I'm just loving driving it!
Good to see you got it going again man.
Getting the mixture right will make a heap of difference. If the engine feels lazy and a little stumbly its probably too rich. Also, get someone to follow you and see if it's blowing much black smoke. It should just give a little puff when you plant your foot, but not continue after that.
